Well we’ve finally made the big move further down the coast, which meant it was time to check out the local cafes! The closest one to our house is Good Thyme Gourmet, which is a cute little home style cafe located on Nepean Highway.

ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

This intimate style cafe offers a relaxed, homely vibe with a hand full of tables inside the cafe and a few small tables out front. We’ve been twice now, the first time we sat out front, which was a bit noisy with the cars and train station directly across from the cafe, so the second time we opted for inside, which was much more relaxed.

Inside, the fitout is quite simple with concrete floors, dark wooden tables and chairs, and exposed lighting. I especially love their small open concept kitchen, located right behind the coffee bar, perfect for watching the amazing ladies hard at work. Pops of colour come through the vibrant green bar stools, a few hanging photos and single stem florals on each table.

The service was genuinely friendly and attentive from the moment we walked through the door. Each member of the team had a smile on their face and positive attitude.

FOOD

The name says it all when it comes to what they serve, ‘Gourmet’ style foods all day long. However, the cafe is only a small part of what makes Good Thyme Gourmet such a success. The team also host cooking classes, themed events, gourmet catering, take home meals, gift hampers and full consulting (menus, recipe design, training, and more!).

As we were there for a delicious brekky, we started with a few creamy coffees, followed by a piping hot peppermint tea (it was a pretty chilly Melbourne morning!).

On both visits MC ordered the ‘GTG Complete Breakfast’ which consisted of 2 poached free-range eggs on toast, short-cut bacon, thyme-roasted mushrooms, sautéed chorizo & spinach, in-house made baked beans, roasted tomato with cashew crust & 4 Kings tomato relish. Presentation was beautiful, with a mountain of food, bright colours and delicious aromas.

I ordered something different each time, as I always love to try something new and change it up! The first time we visited, I ordered the ‘Brekkie Brioche’ with free-range scrambled eggs, bacon, avocado cream and 4 Kings tomato relish on a soft brioche bun. I’m usually not one to order something like this, but it was the middle of our big move and knew I needed something substantial. I loved how soft the brioche bun was and paired with the 4 Kings tomato relish, brought the whole dish together.

On our second visit I ordered the ‘Toasted Muesli’ made with nuts, seeds, dried figs and cranberries toasted with oranges and cinnamon served with seasonal fruit compote and Greek yoghurt. The muesli was delicious and full of flavour from the abundance of nuts, seeds and fruits used. The fruit compote had a slight tartness to it, which balanced out the sweetness from the muesli.

Overall, our first brekky outing in our new home town was a success. The staff were friendly and attentive, the food was delicious, and loved how relaxed the atmosphere was. I’m definitely keen to pop back in the near future and check out their lunch/dinner menu, possible a cheeky take-way meal as well!
