We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, weekends are always best spent in good company & great food! Sunday morning brought us to Mordialloc to a delicious little cafe called Hendriks (by the recommendation of our breakfast dates). I had actually never heard of it, but then again, I haven’t heard of too many places South of the city. We popped in around 10:45am and the place was pumping with a solid line of guests waiting to be seated. We put our names down on the list and within 20 minutes we were seated at a large communal table near the coffee bar.
ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE
It’s safe to say this is a pretty popular cafe in Modialloc due to the constant line of people waiting to be seated. Located down a busy side street, with not much other than a few industrial buildings and new developments going up, it’s not hard to miss the black and white cafe sitting on the corner.
Inside, the space has an industrial/warehouse feel with exposed black ceilings, brass light fixtures, light timber tables and polished concrete floors. There is ample seating inside with both small individual tables, larger communal tables and a hand full of high top chairs along the windows. Loads of natural light spill through the large windows and the presence when walking in was high energy and inviting.
The service was friendly and attentive, giving how busy it was. It did take a while for our food orders to be taken, however was done with a genuine smile.
FOOD
The menu is full of everything from healthy muesli and oats to over the top French toast and hot cakes, making the decision a difficult one this morning! While trying to decide, we ordered our first round of coffee’s and a thick shake to get our morning started.
I’m usually one to lean more towards the healthier options, but today I was feeling a bit risky and decided to go with the ‘Nutella French Toast’ with Nutella stuffed brioche, sour cherries, milo crumb & vanilla bean ice cream. I was expecting something super rich and over the top, however was pleasantly surprised with the flavours. The sour cherries toned down the sweetness from the nutella and milo crumb and the vanilla bean ice cream added the perfect finishing touch.
MC went with his usual ‘The Big One’, with two poached eggs, bacon, roast mushroom, tomato, crushed avocado & chorizo. Everything was full of flavour and well presented with fresh ingredients.
Overall we had a wonderful breakfast with great company at Hendriks Cafe. The vibe was upbeat, the service was friendly and the food delicious.
