I’ve driven past the Grosvenor Hotel on many occasions and always wondered what was inside the walls of what looked like a basic hotel.
ATMOSPHERE
I was amazed at how large the Grosvenor Hotel actually was. With several different sections, there was no shortage of space here. When you first walk in you are welcomed by a beautiful showcase of wines displayed in floor to ceiling cabinets. From there, to your left is the wine bar/restaurant, with a more romantic, soft vibe and very spacious.
Past the restaurant is a private dining space boosting floor to ceiling windows and a large feature fireplace, perfect for intimate events.
Moving to the right of the restaurant you will pass the wood fire pizza oven as all their cured meats hanging on display. Live bands play in the back area, which I can definitely see being busy on weekends.
There is also a small section at the back which is more of a casual dining space where you are required to go up to the bar to order your food.
The overall feel of the space is very industrial with concrete floors, exposed ceilings and large open spaces.
FOOD
We dined in the back area where you order your food at the bar, however the menu across the venue is the same. After walking past their wood oven, it was a no brainer to go with a pizza. With a range of different traditional pizza’s available, I went with the ‘Calabrese’ with tomato, mozzarella, roast capsicum and spicy calabrese salami. The salami definitely had a bit of a kick to it and the crust was perfectly thin. It was a bit soggy, however was so tasty! The pizzas are a decent size and can be shared between two.
MC ordered the ‘500gm Rib Eye’, dry aged in house and served with chips and a salad. Probably not the best steak, however it was cooked to perfection. The chips on the other hand were amazing! The chips here are worth trying. They are triple cooked over a 72 hour period, which makes them incredibly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Last out was the ‘Cheese & Bacon Burger’, served with a side of chips on a beautiful brioche bun. A very juicy burger with crispy bacon and melted cheese, what a great way to end the weekend!
Overall, the atmosphere and food were more than I expected. The food is a bit on the pricey side for what you actually get (and having to order it up at the bar), however the food was quite tasty. I wouldn’t mind coming here on a Friday or Saturday night to see how busy the place gets and how the vibe is with live music.
