New York is always an adventure with new restaurants and shops opening daily. We had a few nights on our way through to Canada both before and after Christmas and decided to stay at the Westin New York at Times Square instead of our early stays with the Intercontinental.
Location is key when staying in New York and this hotel delivers. Located within walking distance to the theatre district, shopping, Hell’s kitchen and of course Times Square, this hotel is right in the heart of it all.
Walking in, you are first welcomed by the bell hop area and main entry lounge. The theme of the hotel is big city chic, with their feature colour of red prominent throughout. On this trip, they were in the process of doing some renovations on the main check in area, so weren’t able to get the full experience of their lobby.
The main lobby area is located up the escalators, featuring a range of couches, chairs and tables to sit back and relax while checking in. Check in was a bit on the slow side, but we finally got out keys from the SPG preferred check in line and made our way to our room.
Our standard room was spacious consisting of two queen size signature Heavenly Beds, desk, coffee maker with Starbucks coffee and their signature Heavenly Bathrooms. We were also offered complimentary WiFi since we were SPG gold members. The Westin pride themselves in being eco-friendly, using eco-friendly materials in each guest room like LED lights, water conserving low flow plumbing, energy efficient thermostats and GreenGuard solar shades.
There are some people who can’t be fussed with working out while on holidays, however I have made it routine to get a workout in no matter where I am around the world. The best part of the fitness centre here, is that it’s open 24hrs to get a workout in at any time of the day or night. The Westin have recently partnered with New Balance to provide state of the art fitness gear to ensure you get the best work out possible. You just dial Service Express from your room and a fresh pair of clothes and shoes are brought right up to your room. Equipment is supplied by Life Fitness©, which allows you to browse the web, play music or create your own interactive workout.
