Breakfast is always an adventure with so many amazing cafes to try in Melbourne. We had ventured out to Oscar Cooper’s before, however the wait was a bit too long for our hungry tummies. This past weekend, we decided to give it a go again, with fingers crossed we wouldn’t have to wait too long. Walking in the space was packed, however we only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, which we were definitely fine with.

ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

The interior is cosy and earthy with feature brick walls, bright floral arrangements and oversized bay windows for ample fresh air. Industrial stools, communal tables and a large feature bar fill the inside space. Moving outside, communal tables with large umbrellas fill their terrace area, perfect for any weather Melbourne throws our way.

The name Oscar Cooper comes from the owner’s dogs, creating a personal touch to the cafe. The interior is kept simple with minimal decor, focusing on service and food quality. The service was flawless, considering how busy it was. Coffee arrived quickly, as did the food, with our waiter friendly and efficient throughout.

FOOD

The menu works with Victorian local produce, to create the freshest dishes possible. Coffee is always essential on a Sunday morning (or any morning for that matter), so ordered our usual round of coffees. Looking over the menu, I was instantly caught on the All Day Cocktails! What better way to kick off your Sunday than with a round of Espresso Martinis! Bonus!

Specials are showcases above the beautiful fireplace, hand written in bright colours to match the beautiful flowers on the mantle.

We brought mum along with us for breakfast this morning, so it was a nice treat to catch up with her. Mum ordered the ‘Ham Hock & Pea Croquettes’ served with spiced beans, poached egg and pickled celeriac. The croquettes were absolutely beautiful, with the spice from the beans bringing a bit of kick to the dish.

I ordered the ‘Cinnamon Porridge’ with rhubarb & apple compote and pistachio crumble to finish. AMAZING! The rhubarb was tart, the porridge cooked beautiful and the crunch from the pistachio all worked beautifully together.

MC ordered the ‘Oscar’s Benedict’ with potato roesti, avocado, poached eggs, hollandaise & berkshire bacon. The roesti was cooked perfectly, with a slight crunch on the outside and fluffy on the side. The hollandaise was tasty and the eggs & bacon cooked just to our liking. Definitely a must try!

Overall breakfast was amazing & definitely worth checking out. The service was flawless, the atmosphere was pumping and the food was stunning. Everything you would want from a perfect cafe.
