I always love a cheeky week night out for a quick bite to eat with my hubby. With this beautiful weather we’ve been having, we were after somewhere with an outdoor space for us to enjoy the evening heat. I still hadn’t been to the Flying Duck Hotel in Prahran, so though this would be the perfect time to go.

ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

The Flying Duck Hotel has been around since 1868 and has been the local watering hole to the Prahran community. With a recent change over in ownership, the venue has had a massive revamp both to the interior of the venue and the menu. Although a bit difficult to find, the exterior of the venue is quite simple and bland compared to the new interior. Walking through the front door, you are welcomed by a homely feel before heading to the newly remodeled bar and outdoor area.

Brick walls, a fancy new bar and the ever so popular greenhouse-style glass gazebo bring an element of sophistication to this local pub. On either size of the gazebo you’ll find their outdoor beer garden areas, which are full of lush trees and shrubs.

The service here is done by ordering at the bar, which limits the amount of service received from the staff. The bartender was friendly and quick to make drinks, and our food arrived promptly. Exactly what you want from a good pub anyway!

FOOD

The menu is your typical delicious pub fare with a few specialty dishes for those looking for a something a bit more. Since we were just here for a quick bite, MC went with his usual ‘Chicken Parma’ with chips and salad. The parma was a bit on the small side compared to other pubs, but still tasty. The chips were amazing, well seasoned and crunchy with a great batter.

I haven’t had an eggplant lasagna in ages, so thought this would be the perfect chance to do so. There are very few restaurants that offer it, so was excited to see it on the menu. This ‘Eggplant Lasagna’ was amazing, served with a creamy tomato sauce, just the right amount of cheese and had the best part of a slight burnt edging, which I love!

Overall, I was glad we popped in here for a quick bite to eat. The venue was busy with those having mid week drinks and nibbles in the outdoor beer garden. There are some fantastic weekday specials to check out, plus their Sunday sessions from 2-5pm. Look forward to heading back again soon for another great meal.
