One of my absolute favourite places to stay during our honeymoon was the Il Pellicano in Porto Ercole, Italy. I had seen a photo posted on Instagram ages ago and instantly fell in love with the luxury hotel. People have constantly asked what our favourite place on our 6 week honeymoon was, and I always come back to Il Pellicano. It ticks all the right boxes for elegance, luxury and relaxation.
Il Pellicano is a true 5 star hotel, located in Tuscany’s Maremma region and built in the mid 1960’s. The hotel sits high above the sea for unobstructed views of Argentario’s Bay. In 2012, the hotel was welcomed into The Leading Hotels of the World brand.
The exterior of the hotel is stunning with wild flower gardens, century old olive trees and cypress trees filling the property to create privacy between the different villas. The hotel is completely secluded from any other hotels, residence and the public to ensure you have a truly relaxing stay.
The hotel is made up of 34 double rooms, 5 junior suites, 4 deluxe suites and 7 master deluxe suites, all boosting stunning views of the water. All rooms take you back to traditional Tuscan houses, with ceramics, wood furnishings and beautiful paintings throughout. Complimentary WiFi, safe and minibar are all available in each guest room.
Our particular room offered a lounge area and an oversized balcony with unobstructed views of the bay. Outdoor furniture filled the balcony space, perfect for enjoying the summer sun in complete privacy.
The bathroom was exquisite with high end fixtures, floor to ceiling marble and a couples vanity. The marble bath was separate from the shower, which offered a wooden floor for that real spa feeling.
There are two amazing restaurants onsite, the Il Pellicano Michelin, which is an award winning Michelin star restaurant, as well as the Pelligrill. The Il Pellicano is a 5-star restaurant run by Chef Sebastiano Lombardi, specializing in authentic local cuisine. The dining room overlooks the beautiful sea with large bay windows for all guests to have exceptional views of the moon reflecting off the water, creating a very romantic setting. The menu is seasonal, using only organic fruits and vegetables, including the catch of day and organic meats.
We decided to keep it a bit more casual and dine at the Pelligrill, which still has unobstructed views of the water, offering a more relaxed dining experience. The service is exceptional and the food matched the stunning views. Everything from start to finish was flawless. It’s definitely worth while getting there slightly early to enjoy the beautiful views before the sun sets.
