Every time we head down to Sorrento, everyone always raves about the Vanilla Slices at Just Fine Food. I’m usually not one to head somewhere specifically for dessert, however with the rest of the group heading there, it was probably time to check it out.
Just Fine Food is known for their Vanilla Slices, which they pride themselves on. Known as Sorrento’s famous slice (& possibly the best in the world), oversized trays of cake make their way out of the oven and onto the plates of locals and tourists at an outstanding rate. Prices are over the top, so it’s best to just come here for the vanilla slice and keep moving on. If you’re not a vanilla slice lover, sweet and savoury pastries, cakes and cheeses can also be purchased.
We ordered two vanilla slices to share between 3 of us as they are massive pieces. The custard was creamy, slightly lumpy and the perfect amount of vanilla flavouring. Sandwiched between two thin layers of puff pastry and a cheeky ultra thin layer of jam to set it apart from the rest.
I will admit, it was probably the best vanilla slice I’ve had. It was a generous portion with all the right textures of smooth and creamy, followed by a slight crunch from the pastry.
