Moving further down the coast, our next stop was Sorrento, the start of our Amalfi Coast adventure. There was no better place to stay than Maison la Minervetta, boasting unobstructed views of the Gulf of Naples. The hotel sits on the cliffs of Sorrento offering modern and antique nautical decor throughout the entire hotel.
The check in process was simple and quick. Seated at a small desk, you are welcomed by a friendly lady who explains the hotel, breakfast hours and location and things to do in the area while staying in Sorrento. Escorting us to our room, it was easy to see the love for nautical decor, which filled every corner of the hotel.
Walking into our room left in awe with the views out over the Gulf of Naples. There are only 13 rooms in the boutique hotel, all which offer stunning views of the sea. Our particular room was located on the corner of the building, which boosted floor to ceiling windows across two of the walls, looking out towards the town. The room is simple with red, white and blue as the feature colours to create a fresh and relaxing atmosphere.
The bathrooms keep with the blue and white theme with striped tiling on the floor, walls and bathtub. Hits of red are shown throughout featuring drift wood. A small basket sits under the vanity with slippers, blow dryer, and extra toilet paper if needed. A range of luxury toiletries are available and refilled each day by Peter Thomas Roth.
Breakfast matched the decor of the hotel, with bright coloured bowls, bright fruits, funky table cloth and of course, delicious pastries. Everything is made onsite in their beautiful open concept kitchen, which makes you feel like you are right at home. A full continental breakfast is served each morning, with eggs and bacon cooked your way or even pancakes. Breakfast changes daily, based on what the team have baked and prepared the night before, giving each guest the full experience of the traditional food Sorrento has to offer.
Breakfast is served outside on their beautiful outdoor patio, with stunning views. Once breakfast is complete, enjoy an afternoon in the sun with sun beds and a breathtaking view. The hotel does only serve breakfast at the moment, however there are several local restaurants and cafes only a short walk away.
The hotel has a very family run feel to it, making your stay enjoyable and relaxed. The hotel was built in the 1950’s, first as an exclusive restaurant in Sorrento, which later became the boutique hotel we see today.
Moving outside, there are several levels and hidden corners, all offering something different. From the small pool area with a few deck chairs overlooking the water, to the small shower and change area, every detail has been well thought out.
A private stair case leads down to the beach area, however prepare for a hike. One of the only downfalls of the magnificent views on the cliff side, is the walk to and from the beach and restaurant area. Or continue walking, roughly 15 minutes, to reach the main town area with more shops, restaurants and cafes to enjoy.
There was nothing to fault here, the service, food and location were all perfect. The hotel was clean, comfortable and offered so many small details that there was always something to look at inside. The view speaks for itself with unobstructed views leaving us wanting to stay in Sorrento so much longer than we had planned.
