It’s no surprise that Mister Zen’s stylish interior and delicious food has been on the radars of most, primarily due to the publicity it’s received from last seasons ‘The Block’. Located at the base of the apartments featured on the hit TV show, the cafe was a team challenge to create attraction to building.
ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE
The interior of the space is modern chic with concrete floors, black frame tables, exposed light bulb fixtures and wooden ceilings. Greenery accents fill the space creating a clean and warm welcoming. The interior is easily visible from outside due to the floor to ceiling glass doors.
The exterior of the space is similar to inside, with concrete flooring, greenery accents and large bench seating. Furniture outside consists of wire chairs and an ample supply of cosy blankets to rug up in the morning chill. We were the first to arrive on a chilly Wednesday morning, which meant our food was quick to arrive with attentive with friendly service.
FOOD
Our morning always starts with coffee and today was no different. Coffee here is provided by 5 Senses, which I found a bit on the weak side, however still very tasty. If you’re not a coffee drinker, they have amazing tea from Larsen & Thompsen, which is definitely worth a try if you’ve never had it before.
MC ordered the big breakfast of poached eggs, spinach, bacon, sausage and tomatoes. Presentation was beautiful and the eggs were cooked to perfection. He wasn’t the biggest fan of the sausage, saying it had a bit of a funny taste, but all in all a great dish.
I of course went with the ‘Soaked Muesli’ with apple & pineapple ceviche, berry yogurt and fresh seasonal berries. Presentation again was beautiful and the flavours pouring out of this dish were fantastic. Since we were the first to arrive, we must have gotten the old garnish from the day before since they were all wilted, however nothing to keep us from coming back.
Overall we had a wonderful breakfast at Mister Zen. Definitely look forward to heading back and checking out a few other dishes they have on their menu.
