Moana Surfrider, Westin Resort – Honolulu

Hawaii is always a perfect stop over on our way to Canada and love checking out new places to stay. This time around we decided to treat ourselves and stay at the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa. Opening their doors in 1901, the ‘First Lady of Waikiki’ is one of the oldest standing buildings, with a recent refurbishment to a luxury Westin property.

GUEST ROOMS

Upon arriving to the hotel, we were given a standard room with two double beds (which we didn’t book). After having a chat with the front desk, they had mentioned the room we booked wasn’t available until tomorrow. A bit disappointed, we weren’t going to let this ruin the start of our relaxing stay. Although a beautiful room, with a great view, we were after something a bit more romantic (and what we paid for).

The following morning we checked out of our double bed room, and into our beautiful suite. The Town Ocean Suite is a one-bedroom suite with their signature ‘Heavenly’ king bed, separate living and kitchenette and two private balconies. The living room area is the first of the spaces you see when walking in, which is very spacious, well-lit with natural lighting and well styled.

The bedrooms are stunning with their comfortably Heavenly Beds, Hawaiian accent decor, and breathtaking views of the ocean without having to leave your bed.

The bathroom was probably the smallest of the rooms in the suite, however well laid out. The full marble shower offers state of the art stationary and hand-held shower heads, oversize wardrobes, and complimentary bath amenities.

POOL & BEACH

You really can’t go past the stunning pool area. I did find there weren’t very many chairs available around the pool area, however there are private cabanas and beach chairs available for hire on the stunning Waikiki Beach.

Around the pool area, food and drinks are available without having to leave your chair. If you do hire chairs on the beach, they do not offer drink service as you aren’t allowed to drink on the beach. We got around this by going up to the bar and ordering the drinks ourselves and bringing them back to the beach.

DINING

Here you will find everything from casual bar food to find dining restaurants all at your fingertips, without having to leave the property.

Beachhouse at the Moana
- Dinner only – Oceanfront fine-dining restaurant, using local produce. Island inspired cuisine. Open from 5:30pm

Veranda at the Beachhouse
- Breakfast & lunch service – Offering a selection of fine teas and an assortment of finger sandwiches and pastries
Beach Bar
- Bar foods & drinks – offering a range of tropical drinks and snacks to be enjoyed poolside

Vintage 1901
- Wine bar – offering wine flights, fine artisan beers and small savory snacks. Best to start or finish your night here. Open from 5pm

Surfrider Cafe
- Breakfast & lunch service – selection of more healthy options

FITNESS CENTRE

The WestinWORKOUT® Fitness Studio is open 24 hours a day to ensure you get your work out in at any time that is convenient for you. State of the art equipment includes cardio machines like the elliptical, treadmill and bike, plus free weights and weight machines to cover all areas.

For those who love to run, RunWESTIN™, has partnered with New Balance to create custom 3 and 5 mile running routes along the beach and inner city. After you’ve finished your run, enjoy a daily pass to all the spa facilities at any time.

MOANA LANI SPA

Priding themselves in Hawaiian healing traditions, this innovative spa is your ultimate sanctuary. Daily spa passes include access to the whirlpool, sauna and steam room, plus the relaxation lounge is available at a cost of $45. Sit back and enjoy total peace with full service spa treatments available in one of their 14 treatment rooms, plus two couple’s massage rooms.
