Working in the city I am always looking for somewhere new that has great food and can get it out quickly during my lunch break. I made my way down to one of Melborune’s favoured laneways, Russell Place to check out Neapoli Wine Bar and to enjoy a bit of sunshine on their outdoor section.
ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE
The restaurant is separated into three areas, the main floor, which is taken up primarily by the beautiful oak bar, an upstairs dim lit dining room with a hand full of tables for a more intimate setting and their outdoor section, which I find most popular.
By day the space is flooded with corporate clientele hosting long business lunches, by night, the space turns more romantic and is the perfect setting for date night. The staff are extremely friendly, laid back and attentive.
FOOD
The menu is simple and reasonably priced with dishes highlighting different regions throughout Europe. Everything from Greek, Thai, Mexican and a bit of Middle Eastern come through in their food. Since it was such a beautiful day, I decided to start with a glass of Fiano while enjoying the sunshine.
Lunch consisted of the ‘Soba Noodle Beef Salad’ with bean shoots, ginger, nam jim & abc sauce. The dish was full of flavour and the beef was tender & juicy. The only herb I cannot handle is cilantro, and it was in this dish, which just meant I had to pick it out as I went.
Overall was a great afternoon in the sun. The staff are friendly, the food is quick to come out and the atmosphere is laid back and enjoyable. I will definitely be heading back here in the near future to ensure a few more glasses of vino!
