Sunday afternoons are always spent with my Hubby, and this weekend we were in Perth with family, so were looking for somewhere laid back. My father-in-law had suggested Nicholson’s, which we had been to once before a few years back. It was perfect weather to enjoy their beautiful outdoor beer garden, so took him up on the offer.
ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE
The inside restaurant has a very homey feel to it with large wooden beams, leather high back chairs, over sized dark wooden tables and simple artwork throughout. A large bar off to the size is where you order your drinks and meals throughout the afternoon.
Moving past the main dining room area is the large outdoor beer garden. It’s changed since the last time I was here as it now has a large fixed canopy over the entire area. Large TV’s are playing the latest sporting events live, which I can see the space filling up when a Perth team is playing! The space has a very outdoor vibe with wicker chairs, and plants surrounding the entire space for a more earthy feel.
The service was friendly and attentive throughout the afternoon. We only really spoke with the wait staff when they brought the food to the table as they don’t offer table service in the beer garden area during lunch.
FOOD
Both times we’ve been here MC has ordered the ‘Chilli Mussels’ since we’ve heard they are the best and have now become one of his favourites! The fresh mussels are steamed in a perfect combination of white wine, chunky tomato, chilli and garlic to create an unforgettable flavour. Portion size is massive and is best shared between a few people. Served with crusty bread for dipping, this is one of the best dishes on offer!
Also ordered was the ‘Hickory Smoked Ribs’ which were tender pork ribs in a zesty BBQ sauce. It was definitely a much smaller portion size to the mussels, however full of flavour. You have the choice of either chips or mash (go for the chips, they are amazing!).
I ordered the ‘Chicken Greek Salad’, served with tomato, cucumber, Spanish onion and olives. It was a bit plain for me and the chicken was overcooked unfortunately.
Besides my salad, everything else was wonderful. The atmosphere is laid back which we wanted and the service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant is quite large with a lot of indoor and outdoor seating options serving up delicious pub meals. The only downfall is that there is no eftpos facility, only an ATM.
