Only in its 6th year, the annual Salami Festa is back again this October to celebrate all things Salami. During the cold winter months, cold cellars, sheds and garages are filled with meat hung in preparation of spring. Salami making is a tradition that is passed down from generation to generation, with each family having their own twist on the perfect salami.
It may not be the biggest festival in Melbourne, but it sure has a significant group of meat lovers heading down to the Northcote Town Hall to satisfy their taste buds with so many different flavoured Salami’s. There are more than 6,000 people attending and 60+ official entries to the Salami competition, which makes for a lot Salami sampling to make for a fair judging. Your entry into the festival gives you a complimentary tasting plate with 6 different salami’s, which you are to rate, all going in for the final count at the end of the weekend.
There is so much going on in only a two day festival period, with something to be enjoyed by all age group. The salumi tasting hall is one of the most popular, showcasing some of Australia’s best quality meats that are both available for tasting and purchasing.
If salami tasting isn’t enough, some of Melbourne’s top restaurants will also have pop up tents making some of their signature dishes for purchase all while enjoying live music in their outdoor setting. Demonstrations can be purchased for $10 throughout the weekend for those looking to really get their hands dirty and test their salami making skills.
