We arrived early into Queenstown, which meant our room still wasn’t ready to check into. We stored our bags at the hotel and decided to stroll the streets of Queenstown and enjoy the sunshine. Not long into our walk, we came across Surreal Bar & Restaurant, and decided it was time to stop for a drink and lunch, in hopes that once we were done, our room would be ready.
ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE
It was shortly after noon when we arrived to a hand full of tables already sitting inside. The space is a cosy style bar with a gorgeous fireplace you instantly notice when you first walk in. Tables are scattered on both sides of the bar with both bench seating and bar tables available. TV’s perched up on the walls are showcasing the latest in snow sports and jazzy style music places in the background.
The service was friendly and attentive during our lunch. The waiter went through the delicious daily specials and ensured we always had a drink in hand.
FOOD
Here you will find a delicious range of tapas style dishes plus all your pub favourites to warm up to. Everything from spiced nuts, chips, chicken wings and burgers fill the menu, with a few healthy options (just in case!). I tried to go for a healthier option, but the ‘Taco Salad’ instantly caught my attention. Served with grilled chicken, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, red onion and served in an edible bowl with ranch style dressing, this was exactly what I needed. A bit of healthy with a bit of fun!
MC ordered the ‘Rump Steak’, which was 150gm fully trimmed, cooked medium rare with fries, coleslaw and gravy. He mentioned the steak was cooked perfectly and loved the flavouring and creaminess from the slaw.
If my taco bowl wasn’t enough, I also ordered a side of ‘Poutine’, served with chunky fries, melted cheese and gravy. Coming from Canada, it’s always a must to order something that reminds me of home, and this was the perfect choice!
Overall, lunch was perfect and just what we were after. The vibe was relaxed and cosy, the food delicious and the service was friendly and attentive.
