The Union Hotel is your proper pub with ample seating, TV’s with live coverage of all the sports games and a beautiful large bar pouring all your favourite beers. They give off a modern, relaxed vibe year round with a fireplace cranking during the colder months and outdoor seating along Chapel Street during the nicer months of the year.
We came here on a Thursday evening, which is their ‘Pasta Night’, where all pastas are $12 each. As we weren’t overly hungry, we decided to go with a few shared plates while we put in our footy tips and had a quick beer. Being a pub, you order your food at the bar and take a seat while waiting for your food. We were pleasantly surprised on how quickly our food came out.
We went with the tempura veggies as well as the crochettes, which both came out piping hot! The veggies were massive pieces, which were perfectly coated and fried. The dish came with a savory soy type dipping sauce, which worked beautifully with the veggies.
The crochettes were the perfect consistency with a crunchy outer shell and a gooey filling. Paired with a tangy aioli and it was delicious! For pub food, it was quite impressive!
