Honolulu is one of our favourite places for a quick stop on our way through to Canada and we are always on the hunt for new places to check out! After doing a bit of research, we were invited to Tiki’s Grill & Bar (a short walk from our hotel) to check out their new breakfast menu.
Known for their lively nights and tasty foods, it was a treat to pop in and check out what they had to offer for their early birds.
FOOD
Although it may not be an extensive breakfast menu, all your favourite American dishes make the cut, with their own Tiki twist to create the perfect island style dishes. Since we were on holidays, coffee was out of the question, it was all about starting the morning with a few brekky cocktails, complete with little umbrellas!
There’s nothing better than the sweet taste of fresh island fruit, and I am a huge lover of pineapple, so seeing the ‘Maui Gold Pineapple Canoe’ on the menu, it was an instant order for me! Fresh tropical fruit, Naked Cow Dairy vanilla scented yogurt and granola filled the hand carved pineapple.
MC ordered the ‘Kalua Pig & Taro Hash’ Eggs Benedict, served with island style pulled pork hash, Taro, Hau’ula Lomi Lomi tomatoes, poached farm fresh island eggs, all served on a English muffin. The pulled pork and taro patty was delicious and well seasoned, the eggs cooked to perfection and the hollandaise sauce added the perfect flavour to bring the dish together.
ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE
We arrived quite early in the morning and there were already a hand full of tables seated when we arrived. With so many hotels in the area, it’s a no brainer for the space to be filled with both tourists and locals enjoying fresh, delicious food to start their day. Plus you can’t beat a view like this (below)!
The name of the restaurant showcases exactly how the restaurant is designed, ‘Tiki flare’, which is large, spacious and filled with local Hawaiian decor, including custom styled wooden totem poles to create the perfect atmosphere!
Ample seating fill both the indoor and outdoor terrace area, perfect to be enjoyed year round. Once the afternoon hits, the space becomes more lively with cocktails flowing and tasty bar & local favourites to be enjoyed.
Once the sun starts the set, the space becomes more of a bar with live local music, creating a more upbeat atmosphere well into the night. From early morning risers looking for a relaxed atmosphere to the late comers looking for a lively night, Tiki’s Grill has something for everyone!
The service throughout our breakfast was wonderful, with Sebastian looking after us. He was friendly, attentive and made wonderful recommendations on what to try to ensure we got the true local cuisine we were after.
A big thank you to the team at Tiki’s Grill for welcoming us to their restaurant! We will be heading back in a few months and look forward to popping in again to check out their lunch/dinner menu!
