When it comes to rooftop bars, Melbourne has us covered. Laneway bars have been replaced by rooftop bars, and it’s no surprise why, Melbourne has some stunning views! With new bars popping up each month, there is always somewhere new to stop for an after work drink or a big night out. I’ve picked out my top 5 places to enjoy drinks (or two!) with a view in Melbourne. Give yourself a bit of a workout and climb those flights of stairs, because at the top, a new world awaits you, where alcohol is served in style, sky-high.
1. Madame Brussels
One of my favourite places to visit with my girlfriends is the charming Madame Brussels located 3 floors up. Don’t let the walk up fool you, as when you walk through the doors to the bar, it’s like entering a scene similar to that of Alice in Wonderland. Lattice and Astroturf are what set the charm for Madame Brussels, and the waitstaff wearing 80s retro tennis uniforms all add to the charm.
With more than 7 years under their belt, the word has gotten out on how great this place is. Don’t be surprised if you have to line up on a Friday or Saturday night to get in. They’ve mastered the winter crowd with massive fur blankets to keep you warm as you sip one of the popular cocktails served in jugs.
On our most recent visit to Madame Brussels, we were greeted by friendly staff and ordered a jug of their signature cocktails, which was refreshing, yet fruity. The combination of cucumber and mint work beautifully to create a perfect summer drink. We have yet to try their food, however if it’s as tasty as their cocktails, it’s sure to be a winner.
It’s safe to say that Madame Brussels isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Stop in to the garden party and enjoy one of their tasty signature drinks.

2. The Deck
Located above the Waterside Hotel, venture down to the corner of King Street and Flinders Street and make your way up the two flights of stairs. Once at the top, turn left and you will find yourself in a laid back club with a dance floor area and a beautiful bar area and some comfy couches to rest your feet between songs.
Turn right at the top of the stairs and you are outside in the modern lounge area. This offers a chic bar serving all the typical beverages with a few different cocktails on the menu and a great outdoor BBQ for those looking for a snack. High top tables line the wall and plush cushions are also available for those looking for a more relaxed atmosphere. The space isn’t overly large, but does fill up quickly on Thursday and Friday evenings after work.
With an atmosphere based around all ages from the trend setting professionals, to young 20 somethings, and the dancing crowd, the vibe is on the cutting edge of style to attract all types. Plus, the view pretty much sells the place in itself. Only open on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays, there is always a line to get in during ‘peak hours’.
We’ve been here the last two Friday evenings and the rooftop was bustling with an after work crowd. We took up the offer of having something from their BBQ as it smelled amazing. The only downfall was the service. They have a ridiculous amount of staff walking around picking up glasses to the point where it’s almost impossible to get two words in a conversation without a waiter interrupting.

3. THE EMERSON
A beautiful venue, perfect for the South Yarra clientele. This is a breath of fresh air with stunning outdoor decor, friendly service and the perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon in the sun.
Enjoy the city views on the full length deck filled with day beds and high top bar tables. A stunning 280 degree view of the city make for an sunlit space to make you feel you are beach side.
Watch as the sun sets with a cocktail in hand and friendly faces all around. The Emerson has been a hit since recently opening this past October and has been a summer favourite for many.
This is the perfect chill out spot, with light and neutral colours filling the space and plants surrounding the deck to bright out the laid back, outdoor vibe. This will continue to be my Sunday afternoon spot as the cocktails are just the right amount of strong and the view is to die for.

4. TRANSIT COCKTAIL LOUNGE
Looking for the best city view? I would highly recommend the Transit Cocktail Lounge at Fed Square. Boasting a beautiful view of the Yarra and Art Centre, this has to be my favourite spot for drinks with a beautiful night view of the Art Centre precinct lit up.
Especially on a hot day, you’ll get the beautiful breeze to cool you down with your favourite cocktail in hand. The atmosphere is pumping with an old school swanky feel. With dim lighting, table service, and low-key live jazz, this is the place for a weekend date by candlelit cocktails.
Located above the much acclaimed Transport Hotel Complex, The Transit Cocktail Lounge is a more high-end lounge with some of the best views of the city. A must visit!

5. SIGLO
Finally we have Siglo, perched above The Melbourne Supper Club, this rooftop terrace showcases stunning views of Parliament House and Spring Street. On the higher end spectrum of costs, the clientele here are those you would find at the supper club downstairs. Beverages are expensive, but you get what you pay for here, with very attentive staff and table service throughout the night.
The entrance is much to be desired with an unmarked Supper Club door and several flights of stairs, however once you make it to the top, your welcomed by a casual yet elegant atmosphere. We ordered a few cocktails from the friendly staff as well as a few nibbles to enjoy with our amazing view. Everything from Polenta Chips to Joselito Jamon Iberico are on the list, perfect for every appetite.
With a sophisticated late night atmosphere, this is the place you want to come if your looking for a more mature crowd with stunning uninterrupted views and a good-time vibe.
