It’s Saturday! Which means it’s time to check out a new cafe! We decided to head outside our normal South Yarra/Prahran location since we weren’t keen on waiting for a table anywhere decent. So thought we would make our way down to St Kilda and popped into Treehouse Lounge for a quick bite to eat.
ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE
So I’m not sure what happened to all my photos of the space, but they have magically disappeared. Will need to head back and snap a few photos when I get a chance.
The indoor space is broken down into three separate areas, the bar area with high top tables, the main dining space and a more private area at the back. Wood accents follow through both spaces, from the large wooden feature bar, to the polished wooden floors, to even an entire wall of wood. I guess that’s what you get when you have ‘treehouse’ in your name. Greenery also hang from the ceiling as well as pops of green from plants scattered around the venue.
The service was friendly and polite but a bit slow to start off.
FOOD
The menu is versatile with dishes available for any tastebud. Using fresh, local ingredients, it was difficult to decide what to order!
MC made his usual brekky of poached eggs, bacon, chorizo, mushroom, avocado and grilled haloumi. Although a pretty simple dish, he was quite pleased with the taste of everything and how well everything was cooked.
I ordered the ‘Smashed Avocado’ with organic quinoa, sweet corn, pomegranate, feta and fresh herbs, served on multi grain bread. This was definitely one of the better smashed avo dishes I’ve had. I loved all the different elements of this dish, from the sweetness of the corn to the texture of the pomegranate, to the slight tartness of the feta, everything tied in so well together.
I was pleasantly surprised on our breakfast here. It wasn’t overly busy, the food was delicious and the service was friendly. Might have to start heading out of our comfort zone a bit more and find a few more neighbourhood gems like this.
